This week I've been on an IRATA level 1 course. IRATA stands for Industrial Rope Access Trade Association and governs industrial work at height while suspended from ropes - urban mountaineering!
I am moving to Canada in May this year as Mairi has recently started an MSc at the University of Manitoba. The province of Manitoba is quite far from any mountains and therefore mountaineering work is not really viable. Hopefully with my IRATA ticket I will be able to pick up some interesting work during our time in Canada, mixed in with some expedition work and possibly another season in Antarctica!
I completed my course at TRAC Training, based near Glasgow, and the facilities, staff and delivery of the course were all absolutely first class.
