Mairi Fenton is the other half of Scott Webster Mountaineering! She works on the logistics of overseas expeditions, is our on call support and occasionally steps in as an assistant leader.
Mairi trained as a marine biologist and graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc in Marine & Freshwater Biology and an MSc in Marine Science. She has since spent three years (four summer seasons and two winters) working as a scientific researcher for the British Antarctic Survey, based out of the Rothera Research Station. This was a varied job involving year round data collection that included scuba diving under the frozen sea ice in the winter!
Mairi also has extensive field work experience in the Arctic having carried out numerous scientific trips in the Canadian Arctic working alongside local Inuit hunters.
Mairi has extensive travel experience and has visited all 7 continents. She is an experienced skier and mountaineer, having climbed to over 6000m's and skied in Arctic Greenland. In 2015 Scott and Mairi drove from their home in Scotland to Mongolia in their 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser, and back again. Along the way they climbed throughout Europe, undertook an expedition in the Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan and another in the Altai mountains of Mongolia/China. Mairi was the brains behind much of the logistics on this trip.
Mairi is currently working towards her Mountain Leader certification and Sea Kayak Leader. She is a trainee Ski Patroller and advanced wilderness first aider.
Mairi holds the following qualifications:
